Your privacy matters. Here's how BloatBuster protects it.

Last updated: August 16, 2025

The Simple Truth

BloatBuster does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data or information from our users. Period.

What This Means

No data collection: We don't collect any personal information, usage statistics, or analytics.
No tracking: We don't track how you use the app or what files you clean.
No network activity: BloatBuster works entirely offline and doesn't send any data over the internet.
No third-party services: We don't use any third-party analytics, crash reporting, or advertising services.
No accounts required: You don't need to create an account or provide any personal information to use BloatBuster.

How BloatBuster Works

BloatBuster is a local utility that runs entirely on your Mac. It scans folders you drag into the app to identify development artifacts like node_modules, target, .gradle, and other build directories. All scanning and cleaning operations happen locally on your device.

File Access

BloatBuster only accesses files and folders that you explicitly drag into the application. The app requires your permission to access these locations and only scans for known development artifact patterns. Your source code and personal files are never modified or accessed beyond what you specifically authorize.

Data Storage

The only data BloatBuster stores is:

  • Your app preferences (such as which file types to clean)
  • Recently cleaned locations for convenience

This information is stored locally on your Mac using standard macOS preferences and is never transmitted anywhere.

macOS Permissions

BloatBuster may request the following macOS permissions:

File access

To scan and clean folders you drag into the app

Full Disk Access (optional)

Only if you want to clean system-protected directories

These permissions are only used for the core functionality of the app and are subject to macOS's built-in privacy protections.

App Store Compliance

This privacy policy is designed to comply with Apple App Store requirements. BloatBuster does not collect any data that would require user consent under privacy regulations such as GDPR or CCPA.

Open Source

BloatBuster's core functionality is transparent. You can verify our privacy claims by examining how the app works. We believe in privacy through transparency and technical design, not just policy.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever need to change this privacy policy, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Since we don't collect any contact information, we cannot notify users directly of changes. We recommend checking this page periodically if you have concerns about privacy.

Contact Us

If you have any questions about this privacy policy or BloatBuster's privacy practices, you can contact us through our GitHub repository or the contact information provided on the App Store.

Privacy Summary

BloatBuster is designed with privacy as a core principle. We don't collect any data because we don't need to. The app works entirely offline, processes only the files you explicitly provide, and stores preferences only on your local device.
